Information
WORLE SCHOOL opened in 1940 in buildings on Spring Hill and moved to its present site in 1971 when education in Weston-super-Mare was reorganised along comprehensive lines. It was the first comprehensive school to be purpose built by Somerset County Council. Worle was also one of the first schools in the former County of Avon to achieve status as an Investor in People. The school has a proud tradition of service to the community and in 2002 the Governing Body changed the school’s name to Worle Community School to reflect our growing commitment to engaging the wider community in the life of the school.
The school looks forward to making a significant contribution to the development of our community by providing an education of high quality for the young people of our area and increasingly for members of the wider community also.
Values and Aims
Worle Community School is committed to being a highly successful community comprehensive school whose core belief is that every child really does matter. In seeking to fulfil this commitment we believe that we should make use of all the opportunities that are presented to us to ensure that our young people, and indeed our staff, parents, governors and wider community, are exposed to the best possible opportunities for learning and personal growth and that they are provided with appropriate support and challenge as and when they need it. In short, WorleCommunity School seeks to be:
‘A safe, secure and happy school, providing stimulus and challenge, where students achieve their full potential’
The ways in which we are working towards fulfilling our vision for the school is set out in the School Improvement Plan, the major goals from which are set out below:
Major goals for 2006 to 2009:
- All groups of students will have challenging targets, make good progress towards them and achieve good or better outcomes
- All students will have high quality learning opportunities that raise expectations and challenge them to learn independently and to achieve high standards
- Teaching and learning will be judged to be good or better overall and the evidence for the judgement will be provided by a robust and thorough system of monitoring, evaluation and review
- Further improvements will have been made to curriculum provision to ensure that the needs and aspirations of all learners are appropriately met
- Improved and effective ICT resources will have been put in place to inform, report and improve communication within the whole school community
- The high standards of care, guidance, behaviour and attendance will have improved from good to outstanding.
- High quality Performance Management and Continuing Professional Development systems will be in place to help achieve the above goals.
