Welcome to Worle Community School

*** EXCELLENT GCSE RESULTS FROM WORLE COMMUNITY SCHOOL ***

Worle school students were delighted with their results this year which were on a par with those reached last year.

The overall picture was of 67% achieving at least 5 A* - C grades and there were some outstanding individual achievements. Matthew John achieved an A in AS Level Critical Thinking and ten further A* grades; Owain Hunt also achieved A in AS Critical Thinking, seven further A* grades and two A’s . The boys were closely matched by Caroline Bily with three A* grades, five A’s plus A*’s in French and Spanish with the maximum level in Asset Languages Advanced; Jessica Durant achieved 2 A*’s in French and Maths and a further 5 A grades.

There was success at every level and the students were pleased that all the efforts that they had made in the last two years had been rewarded with results that they could take with them to further education or employment.

Peter Binding, new Head Teacher, said that the school has maintained its good progress and thanked the parents and carers for their support and encouragement of the students culminating in the results gained today. The partnership between home and school is vital in encouraging students to achieve their best in looking towards future career aspirations. He thanked all the students for their hard work and wished them every success in the future.

Particular success stories at the school this year were the Digital Art, ICT CIDA and ICT OCR Nationals, Physics, Statistics, Science OCR Nationals, Creative and Media Diploma and Textile courses, which all achieved above 92% pass rates.

The school is expecting to build on it’s strengths to secure even higher levels of performance in the years to come.

Worle Community School is an oversubscribed school on the edge of Weston-super-Mare. We are an Arts College with a special focus on Media Arts. We have been a specialist Arts College since September 2000 and anticipate continuing as such into the future. This exciting development has ensured that our students have access to state of the art facilities, including Information and Communications Technology and other interactive technologies, across the curriculum. Arts College status and the facilities it has brought with it are providing our students and the wider community with opportunities to learn a variety of skills including competence in ICT, team work and critical thinking: key skills for employment in the twenty first century. We also have a "Rural Dimension" as a specialist school, one of only twenty two such schools in the country. We are leading the development of land based courses and training in North Somerset together with Westhaven Community Special School and our partners from Further and Higher Education. Horticulture and Environmental Science are already established.

We are committed to ensuring that our young people are fully prepared for life and employment in the twenty first century. We also want them to be good citizens who show care and consideration for others and who are sensitive to the differences between people. We also seek to provide an education which is culturally rich and physically challenging. We want them to leave us having enjoyed their learning and having achieved the highest possible standards; valuing and understanding the powerful role that learning can continue to play in their lives.

Our students are at the centre of all that we do. We seek to provide high quality opportunities for learning and to support all our students in making progress in their learning. We are committed to the values of comprehensive education and want every child to achieve the very best that he or she can. We believe that every child really does matter and we work hard to ensure that we provide the right support to individuals when it is needed. We strive to be a school in which the promotion of the health and well-being of all members of the school community is of fundamental importance, since where this is neglected, learning will be less successful. We also seek to involve our students in important decision making on school matters through the Student Council.

I hope that our website will give you a clear idea of the range and quality of the opportunities for learning that we offer and of the high educational standards for which we strive. If you would like to see our school in action, do please come and meet staff and students at work during the day. You will be assured of a warm welcome.
